Welcome Basket

The Cumberland Church makes every effort to reach out to our neighbors in our community. One way we accomplish this is through our community welcome basket ministry.
We reach out to new church members, visitors, the homebound, sick, elderly or just those who need a special touch.
Summary:  Our ministry prepares welcome baskets for families and individuals living in the Cumberland RI area.  We believe this is a great way to provide some essential needs to families that they do not usually receive, as well as an opportunity to meet the newest members of the community.  This initial contact of delivering gifts to their homes can be the starting point of developing long-term relationships with them and we welcome volunteers that can be part of this effort.
WHO:  Specifically for the families being newly resettled to Cumberland RI area and those needing a little extra help.
HOW:  Loving members from the Cumberland SDA Church organize the preparation of the baskets with enlisted help from members, volunteers, youth groups or churches who have expressed an interest in serving others.  The baskets used are actual laundry baskets so the family has a gift long after the items in the basket are gone.
When a new family arrives, members of Cumberland SDA Church deliver the welcome basket to the family’s home along with other church members or volunteers that are interested in building relationships within our community. This provides a chance to meet the families and welcome them to the community personally.
